Carls are ULTIMATE!! πŸ†πŸ₯πŸ₯‡πŸ₯ˆπŸ₯‰

Join us in wishing a HUGE congratulations to Syzygy: Carleton Women's Ultimate, CUT -- Carleton Ultimate Team, CHOP, and Eclipse on their amazing 2025–26 seasons!

Syz capped off an UNDEFEATED season (yes, you read that right) by becoming our D-I Women’s College National Champions, CUT and CHOP both snagged silver medals in the D-I and D-III men's divisions, and Eek tied for fifth in the D-III women’s division after making it all the way to the quarterfinals! We are SO proud of these incredible student-athletes πŸ’›πŸ’™

: Apart from The Carletonian newspaper, by far the longest-lasting Carleton student publication was the class yearbook, aka the Algol. First issued in 1889 by the Class of 1890, it subsequently appeared annually (after a few skipped years in early days) until 2010.

The original editors named their publication for a variable star of the second order, rather than a constant star of the first order, on the theory that subsequent volumes might vary in brightness.
.. as they indeed did, though the information- and photo-packed books served as treasured remembrances of Carleton life for 12 full decades of alumni.

RIP the Carleton Algol, 1889–2010!

This year, academic technologist Carly Born celebrated her 25-year anniversary of working at Carleton β€” and just last summer, she hosted the International Kyudo Federation American Seminar on campus as the American Kyudo Renmei president!

Student writer Zach Burnham ’29 sat down with Carly and fellow Kyudo practitioner Jay McKinney, cognitive science professor at Carleton, to talk all about this martial art of Japanese archery and how it came to be in Northfield, Minnesota.
