BUILD PODER is an undergraduate research training program funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In a supportive community, sophomores, juniors, and seniors take classes and work directly with professors on research projects that relate to health – from the molecular to the planetary! From public health to philosophical frameworks for pain, we seek to generate a vibrant, socially responsible and open environment for asking new research questions and using new methods to reduce health disparities.
In the long-term, our goal is to increase representation of those whose health has been traditionally been poorer to become researchers themselves. For example this may include biomedical researchers who make social change by studying the health influence of local landfills in communities of color or neighborhoods with more liquor stores than grocery stores.
This year we are organizing a one-day event, “Race, Racism, and the Sciences,” and as part of this effort we want to showcase CSUN students’ research through a student poster session.
We welcome two different types of proposals:
1) BUILD PODER students are encouraged to submit proposals on the research they are conducting with their mentors.
2) We also encourage other CSUN undergraduate and graduate students to submit proposals on research that examines the relationship between health and race.
We request that all proposals include author names, title, and 100-150 word abstract.
