Dr. Michael D. Burroughs will be presenting a talk on,
“The Stories We Tell: Dialogue and Images of Childhood”
This lecture will begin with discussion of what I refer to as the traditional view of childhood (inherited from prominent Western philosophical and psychological accounts of child development). I then move forward to consider alternative images of childhood, including examples informed by philosophical and dialogue-informed work with children in and beyond the classroom. I will consider the importance of dialogue and philosophy for children (amongst other areas and pedagogical approaches) as important means for developing generative and relational images of childhood. These images have the potential to reframe the stories we tell about children, to improve adult understanding(s) of childhood, and, also, to help us better listen to children’s voices.

Please RSVP by February 15th, 2020 to Professor Sindhuja Bhakthavatsalam at [email protected]
