Eco-Evo Lab

Eco-Evo Lab Add one part Ecology, one part Evolution, and stir. As community ecologists, we are interested in the factors that allow species to coexist.

We are interested in how evolution on contemporary time scales alters the outcome of species interactions and affects species and genetic diversity in communities. Because species in natural communities interact with many other species, we are also interested in the evolutionary outcomes of multiple direct and indirect species interactions to better understand how species evolve in a community con

text. We use both theoretical and experimental approaches to bridge the gap between evolutionary biology and community ecology. We explore these questions in various natural systems, including plant-herbivore interactions in California grasslands, microbial communities that live inside pitcher plants, and symbiotic algae living within corals.
