Los Angeles can seem like a company town, dominated by the movie business. But the area is dotted with oil wells — landmarks of a key industry in the region. Now plunging prices are taking their toll.

The CSUN IBA Team presented to the judges today and we are very proud of what we accomplished. We have learned a lot and have grown as people and professionals through this 8-week process. Congratulations to our new friends on the other teams and thank you Dr. Marsaglia, Dr. Yule, last year's IBA Team, and all our friends and family for advice and support. See you all back in Northridge!

There will be a chapter meeting this Wednesday, at 4:30pm in the Hanna room. Have questions prepared that you would like asked to petroleum geologists next weekend at an event two of our officers are attending. See you there!

There will be a Meeting in LO 1212 (The Hanna room/Sed room) this Thursday at 1:30pm. Expect pizza.

We will be discussing the upcoming PS-AAPG Student Expo and electing new officers of the CSUN AAPG chapter for the upcoming year.

For those attending the PSAAPG/PSSEPM/SEG Convention:

The CSUN AAPG student chapter would like to try to use some of our funds to secure hotel rooms for those that may be attending the conference May 2nd to May 6th (or any number of days in between).

In order for us to evaluate this as a possibility and start looking at options, we need to know how many people would like to take advantage of group lodging for the conference.

Please keep in mind, filling out this form does not guarantee a place to stay, but it will guarantee that you are being considered for whatever we can afford as far as lodging for the conference goes. If you do not fill out this form, we will not be including you in our considerations.

Hello everyone! I just registered for the PSAAPG Meeting in Oxnard and am looking for room mates for a hotel out there. I Found a pretty good deal (~$91/ night at a Best Western). If I can share with 2-3 more people, it will be pretty inexpensive for all of us. :D Ill be at the convention from 5/1- 5/4 (3 nights, 4 days, till Monday evening, during/after the Brew and Browse). If anyone else is staying for that amount of time and would ALSO like to carpool (Maybe we can take a dept van?) Let me know! I haven't booked anything yet, so if any of you have some where else in mind, lemme know!

CSUN's 2015 Imperial Barrel Award team. We're all very proud of what we accomplished, and offer congratulations to all the other schools that participated. Huge thank you to the Department of Geological Sciences at CSUN, specifically to Doug Yule and Vicki Pedone, and to our industry mentors (and CSUN alumni) at California Resources Corporation: Rebecca Greenberg and Tony Reid. Hello Everyone!

The Great Book Giveaway is TODAY!!

There are five boxes of books on the bench on the south wall of LO 1205. Please browse through them and take any books that you would like.
It is first-come, first-served. The door opens at 8:30 am.

The ONLY thing that I need you to do is to PLEASE check off all of the titles that you take so that we have an accurate count of the books that are given away so that I can provide this information to the donor. Thank you for your cooperation and enjoy the books!

Next week, we will have another 5-10 boxes. I’ll let you know what day or days.
