Please join us in celebrating “CSUN Night of Fashion 2011” at California State University, Northrid
ge, in our new Valley Performing Arts Center held on Thursday, April 28th at 5:00 p.m. The event includes, the “Sustainable Cotton Show” (sponsored by Cotton Inc.), the “Style Voyage” (sponsored by TRENDS student fashion organization) and The “Cotton and Sustainability” Student Art Exhibit (sponsored by Cotton Inc.). The show is a collaboration of faculty and students in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, in the College of Health and Human Development. The aim of the “Sustainable Cotton Show” is to increase the awareness and understanding of cotton textiles/products and sustainable design and practices to CSUN students, high schools, community colleges, and broader community. Talented emerging student designers are engaged in researching and developing cotton products with sustainable dyes and finishes; constructing innovative and trendy apparel (sportswear, evening wear and apparel for seniors) and accessories from cotton; and designing and constructing stage set props for the show.
“Style Voyage” is a fashion show which symbolizes graduating designers’ first communion into the fashion world through contemporary sportswear, romantic sportswear, special occasion dresses and a bridal gown and ball gown. This year’s show is unique in that it takes into account the transition that has occurred in fashion due to the current economic climate. Nowadays designers need to be savvy with their designs and balance fashion with sensibility. The “Cotton and Sustainability” Student Art Exhibit will feature a diverse array of original garments, textiles, accessories, sculptures, photographs, paintings and informative research projects created by students from the Apparel Design and Merchandising and Interior Design majors at CSUN, Sylmar High School and Northridge Academy High School. One of the main goals of this exhibit is to educate and inspire students and the community by highlighting the local and global impact of sustainable practices. Furthermore, the exhibit allows participants to witness the influential power of design. Please join us on April 28th to support the work of these future leaders in the Textile and Apparel industry and Interior Design industry.
