Biochemistry alumna Akemi Hinzer is a planetary protection scientist, playing a vital role in the upcoming launch of NASA’s Europa Clipper probe, which will explore an icy moon of Jupiter that could be suitable for life. 🌍❄️

Welcome Vaishnavi Sen, our 2024-2025 CSUN WISE intern!

"As an international student from India, my journey in STEM has been both inspiring and transformative. While studying abroad, I have had various exciting opportunities and unique challenges which have made me independent, resilient and confident to succeed.

Currently, I am a Senior majoring in Computer Science with a strong foundation in Web and Software Development. Throughout my journey, I have constantly challenged myself to participate in various competitions and learn with each competition. These experiences have taught me essential skills such as problem solving, communication, and teamwork. My passion lies in Artificial Intelligence – especially its applications in the field of medicine. I aspire to develop innovative software to provide better patient care with the use of the latest technologies.

Joining the CSUN WISE team inspires me to encourage and support other women in STEM to pursue their passions and make a difference in the world. I am extremely grateful to have an opportunity to share my story with others and empower them to follow their dreams. Media Release: Report Offers Insight into How Women CSUN STEM Alumni are Faring

A team of California State University, Northridge business faculty and a graduate student have put together a 211-page report documenting the experiences of women CSUN alumni who have graduated with degrees in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Their goal: to provide alumni, faculty, staff and students with insights into the women’s experience in STEM, information that can be used to improve the STEM programs and student success in the labor market after graduation.

“Our findings largely align with national studies of women college graduates’ earnings,” said CSUN management professor Richard Moore, who, along with his fellow researchers, works in the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics. “Initially, women have similar earnings to men and, over time, a gap between men and women grows so that, after 10 to 15 years in the labor market, men earn more than women. We find this to be true in most STEM fields at CSUN, and at both the bachelor’s and master’s level.”
