In 2008, Congress passed a resolution designating March 11th National Funeral Director Day as a way to honor the work and recognize the impact they have on the communities that they serve. National Funeral Director Day reminds us to thank the professionals who consider every need during the most challenging time in our lives.

Team Keohane is proud to celebrate Pru O’Connor and Liv Gill, who were officially sworn in today for their apprentice licenses with the Massachusetts Board of Embalming and Funeral Directing.

Pru is finishing her education at FINE Mortuary College, and Liv is attending the Funeral Service Program at Cape Cod Community College. We’re honored to support the next generation of funeral professionals and proud to see women leading the future of funeral service with compassion and purpose.

Last week, we were fortunate to have several members of the German Federal Association of Funeral Directors visit our campus in Norwood, MA. The objective of the presentation was to compare and contrast education and requirements necessary to be a funeral director between Germany and the United States. We had fun and learned a lot!

Although we are an online college, all students are required to spend one week at our suburban Boston campus at the end of the 2 year program to complete their Capstone Project before graduating.

One requisite of Capstone Week is creating a Restorative Art wax model. Emphasis in our RA course is placed on anatomical structures of the face and hands, and the practical application of mortuary cosmetics, waxes, and chemical agents to restore natural appearance. Here are some examples of the skillful work our students produced last week.

Please join us in congratulating the recipients of the 2025 Nikki’s Way Memorial Scholarship, Auriela Carrasco and Kainaya Clark! Each student will receive $2,000 to use toward their funeral service education.

This scholarship was created in memory of Nicole Simulynas, a 2019 FMC graduate. This scholarship is intended to assist students through the educational journey to becoming a licensed funeral director and embalmer. “Hardworking, dedicated, empathic, and compassionate.” Those were Nikki’s exact words used to describe Funeral Directors.
