Serving three colleges and 15,000 citizens – and a population that swells to over 100,000 during a football game – the members of the University of Notre Dame Fire Department (NDFD) devote a significant portion of their liv

es by working 24 hours shifts to safeguard the Notre Dame Community. As a full service life-safety agency, NDFD is a vital component of the University’s mission to provide a safe environment for our faculty, staff, students and visitors. Serving since 1879, NDFD has evolved from volunteers responding when the alarm sounded to a professional department that seeks to prevent fires through public education, fire code inspections, fire protection system maintenance, as well as, being trained and equipped in order to be able to respond to the 1500 calls for service we receive annually.

It’s going to be hot at the Stadium this Saturday. ☀️

To help everyone stay safe and hydrated, guests are allowed to bring two factory-sealed water bottles (up to 20 oz each) into Notre Dame Stadium for the game.

A few quick guidelines to keep entry smooth:
• Bottles must be factory-sealed (unopened)
• Clear plastic water bottles only (no glass)

We’ve seen a lot of questions coming in about logistics for tonight’s AC/DC concert. Since a few details differ from a standard gameday, here is what you need to know before heading over:

• 💧 Water Policy: Each guest is allowed to bring two factory-sealed bottles of water (20 oz. or smaller). As always, you can also bring an empty, non-glass reusable bottle to fill up at water stations throughout the stadium.

• 🚗 Drive-Up Parking: Drive-up, pay-to-park lots will be open beginning at 3:30 p.m. If you need accessible parking, ADA spots are available at the Bulla Lot.

• 🚕 Rideshare Locations (Uber/Lyft): For a smoother drop off and pickup, set your destination to one of our recommended zones:

• South Campus: Trader Joe's (1140 Howard Street, South Bend)
• West Campus: Dorr Road
• East Campus: Vaness Street or Ivy Road

Stay safe, look out for one another, and enjoy the night. 🚓

Oldest campus fire department in America, reporting for first day duty. 🚨

Did you know NDFD is actually the oldest university fire department in the nation? We have been keeping Notre Dame safe since 1879. That means 147 years of firefighters walking these same quads, watching out for students just like you.

We are here around the clock to make sure your semester runs smoothly. Stop by the station or wave if you see us on campus.

Let’s have a safe, incredible school year, Irish. 🔥

Be the roommate everyone actually wants to live with. 🫀🔥
Keeping your space safe is the ultimate roommate hack. These 5 quick dorm fire safety tips take zero effort but make a massive difference for your dorm!

No daisy-chaining: If you use extension cords, make sure they’re surge-protected. Never plug a power strip into another power strip!
Heavy lifters go solo: Plug large appliances (like your mini-fridge or microwave) directly into the wall outlet.
Zero open flames: Candles and incense are a no-go in the dorms. Stick to reed diffusers or room sprays instead!
Stay with your food: Unattended ramen is a leading cause of dorm fire alarms. Always keep an eye on whatever you’re cooking.

Move-in day is almost here, and your hall residence staff is already hard at work keeping campus safe.

All week long, hall staff are stopping by the NDFD station to get hands-on fire extinguisher training .

Having trained people behind them is what actually makes the difference. Huge thanks to our hall staff for taking time out of their busy prep week to keep our residential community safe.
