Prof. Jones's course "Germans in the Americas" visited Notre Dame's University Archives to learn about how American history is preserved right here on campus. The Catholic Studies Librarian and Archivist Jean McManus shared German-language accounts written by Catholic missionaries to the Midwest - and a book containing a fold-out map of US Catholic dioceses in the mid-19th century.

On Saturday, two of our senior German majors traveled to Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, to represent our department at the Indiana Association of Students of German’s Staatskongress! They shared their experiences studying German in college with middle- and high school students from across the state. They also ran into a friend—who was representing his own German department at Wabash College—from their semester abroad with American Junior Year (AJY) at Heidelberg University!

Last week, faculty listened to Samantha Heinle give a talk on Kafka, entitled “Kriegslärm, verstummte Musik” (“Noise of war, silenced music”).
