Our 2nd-year graduate students in Dr. Corso’s SLP 520 – Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) course kicked off AAC Awareness Month with an amazing Device Expo on October 1st! 🗣️📱✨

Representatives from PRC-Saltillo, Talk to Me Technologies, and Tobii-Dynavox shared:
🔹 The history of their companies
🔹 Funding support & customer service
🔹 The critical role of SLPs in evaluating clients for AAC services — and why you can’t assume a “more experienced clinician” will do it for you

💡 Fun Fact: AAC is one of the Big 9 areas of practice in Speech-Language Pathology, and ASHA recognizes how essential it is to our profession! 🌟

Our students asked thoughtful, clinically-focused questions and showed incredible engagement throughout the event — the reps even praised them for being such active and insightful learners! 🙌🎓

📣 Research Lab Highlights | Corso SMART Lab Edition 📣

👏 On Friday, September 26th, Ruby Meza (Graduate Class of 2026) and Grace Layman (SMC BA'24, University of Texas at Austin Graduate Class of 2026) presented their research, “Piecing Together Smart Frames: Vision Specialists’ and Case Study Insights,” at the Viva la Vida with A.T. 2025 Conference in Austin, Texas! 🧠🕶️💬

Dr. Corso and Ruby joined virtually while Grace represented in person — and what a turnout! 🎉 A group of 10 engaged professionals, including vision specialists and independent living experts, joined the session and participated in a lively conversation about how Smart Frames may support individuals with communication disorders. 📱🗣️

We’re so proud of these researchers for leading thoughtful, interdisciplinary work and representing the Corso SMART Lab and Saint Mary’s College with innovation and professionalism. 💙🔔 💙
