"As our chapter, Alpha Omicron Sigma, continues to brainstorm on Honors in Action topics, we have had some influencial guest speakers within our community at our previous meetings to help us decide on which theme to do a project on. We have had the honor of William "Skip" Pohtilla who ran for City Council of Oak Harbor speak on HIA theme: Competition and Politics- What is the role of competition in politics?. And just yesterday had the honor of Oak Harbor Mayor, Scott Dudley speak on HIA theme: Competition and Psychology- Is competition an inherent part of life? Currently, we are in talks with a local start-up, Medardo Santos, CEO and creator of UbnAppd which is a safety application on smart and android phones. This has inspired us to work and support Phi Theta Kappa member, Meagan Daniels, Marketing Director for UbnAppd. Additionally, in association with our chapter, submit a proposal entitled "UbnAppd: A Force for Innovation and Transformation" for the Annual Educational Forum in Orlando, FL Spring 2014 to be considered. Tentatively, Mr. Santos might speak at one of our upcoming meetings on HIA theme: Competition and Technology: What are the connections between compeition and technology? Current trends, current issues, all exciting!"
