TypoSuction

TypoSuction The only funny typo is someone else's! Jim Norrena launched TypoSuction in 2001 to ensure his clients' communications reflect error-free messaging.

Having TypoSuction done allows you to make the best first impression possible. How many times have we been interested in something we're reading only to have an unsightly typo rear its ugly head? We try to look the other way, but it's impossible; the damage is already done.

Strike up another one for TypoSuction!

One of my first streamed typos—taken from the film "Paddleton" (not recommended), in which the two main characters are depicted in a pharmacy. In the background, surrounded by greeting cards, is a sign for "stationary," which happens to be a common error, but not so in a carefully curated film scene! (Everyone from the set designers to the actors to the film editors and beyond missed this!)

To distinguish "stationary" from "stationery," just remember the latter ends in -er, just like "paper."

Easy-breezy!

Errors in printed texts are easy to dismiss as small mistakes.
In practice, they rarely stay that way.

A missing word can reverse the meaning. A mislabeled detail can mislead readers. A late correction can’t always undo the original impact. That’s why errata have been part of publishing for centuries, not just as fixes, but as a record of how a text changed after it reached readers.

The Yale exhibition “Beauties of My Style: Errata and the Printed Mistake” brings together five centuries of printed errors, errata sheets, and revised texts.

If you’re interested in editing, publishing history, or the strange life of a text after it goes to print, this one is worth a visit.

No, no, no. A thousand times no! Do not use a comma before an ampersand—even if you’re sleeping with an Oxford comma!

Driving around town today, I bumped up against this fabulous political endorsement for The Chicago Manual of Style!

And you just know the driver's an editor (or writer) because they can't afford a car wash! 🤣
