Located in Southwest Virginia, ACP offers a three-year Doctor of Pharmacy program and Doctor of Public Health and Certified Pharmacy Technician programs.

ACP is committed to serving the needs of rural and underserved communities in Appalachia and beyond. Founded in 2003, the Appalachian College of Pharmacy accepted its first students in 2005. It is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). ACP offers the only three-year Doctor of Pharm

acy program in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our students graduate and enter the workforce one year earlier than graduates from a traditional four-year program and they do so with equivalent classroom hours and clinical training. Students save one year of tuition and related expenses, providing substantial monetary savings while they earn a quality pharmacy education, enabling them to enter the workforce and begin earning income one year earlier than those completing four-year programs. We call that ACP's $100K Advantage. The Appalachian College of Pharmacy's mission is to cultivate a learning community committed to education, community outreach and the professional development of pharmacists. A majority of our graduates are practicing pharmacy in the Appalachian Region -- positively impacting healthcare in an underserved region.

Appalachian College of Pharmacy (ACP) Alumnus Dr. Derek Webb was appointed to the ACP Board of Trustees last week during a meeting of the board. His appointment came from the Harvey W. Peter’s Foundation.

“We congratulate Derek on his appointment to our ACP Board of Trustees and look forward to working with him in that capacity,” said ACP Provost and Dean Susan Mayhew. “Derek brings a unique perspective to the board, having also been a student here in the past.”

First year pharmacy students arrived on the campus of the Appalachian College of Pharmacy Wednesday to begin their studies leading to a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in Virginia’s only three-year Doctor of Pharmacy program.

ACP President Mickey McGlothlin welcomed students to campus.

“This is a job,” he told students of their commitment to attend pharmacy school. “You have to be committed to learn everything that is taught to you and to be the best that you can be. And we believe that each and every one of you can be one of the best pharmacists. If we did not believe in you, you would not be here today.”

ACP is pleased to be an academic partner for The Next Dose Summit planned October 14–15, 2026 in Covington, Ky. Hosted by the Jordan Smith Community Care Foundation (Jordan is one of our ACP Alums!), the summit was created to be intentionally different from a traditional pharmacy conference. Rather than focusing on continuing education, the two-day summit explores leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship, community, connection and what’s possible within the profession of pharmacy.

The summit is open to pharmacists, student pharmacists, pharmacy professionals, healthcare leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators and changemakers from across the profession. Attendees will hear directly from pharmacists and pharmacy professionals who are building, leading, creating and practicing in innovative spaces, with plenty of time to connect with speakers and other attendees.

We wanted to take a moment to introduce you to our new ACP Dragon mascot since you might start seeing him here and there! We don't have a name for him yet, but this fall, after the Class of 2029 joins us and has a chance to weigh in, we plan to announce a contest to give him an official name! You'll see the details here when the contest opens so in the meantime, be thinking! We look forward to all the suggestions!

Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger recently visited Healing Hands Health in Bristol, TN to tour the clinic location. During her visit, she had the opportunity to learn more about Healing Hands' mission, the services available and the work done daily to improve access to compassionate, quality health care for adults in the region. Healing Hands is also one of ACP's practice sites.

We are excited to announce that Appalachian College of Pharmacy's new Christmas ornament depicting McGlothlin Hall at Christmas is now available for purchase! The price is $20 each. A 4% convenience fee is added for credit card purchases. Shipping is available and fees vary depending on location.
