Located in Southwest Virginia, ACP offers a three-year Doctor of Pharmacy program and Doctor of Public Health and Certified Pharmacy Technician programs.

ACP is committed to serving the needs of rural and underserved communities in Appalachia and beyond. Founded in 2003, the Appalachian College of Pharmacy accepted its first students in 2005. It is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). ACP offers the only three-year Doctor of Pharm

acy program in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our students graduate and enter the workforce one year earlier than graduates from a traditional four-year program and they do so with equivalent classroom hours and clinical training. Students save one year of tuition and related expenses, providing substantial monetary savings while they earn a quality pharmacy education, enabling them to enter the workforce and begin earning income one year earlier than those completing four-year programs. We call that ACP's $100K Advantage. The Appalachian College of Pharmacy's mission is to cultivate a learning community committed to education, community outreach and the professional development of pharmacists. A majority of our graduates are practicing pharmacy in the Appalachian Region -- positively impacting healthcare in an underserved region.

ACP is currently seeking an innovative and highly motivated pharmacist to join the Department of Pharmacy Practice to expand ambulatory care pharmacy initiatives near campus, enhance student recruitment efforts, teach within our integrated pharmacy curriculum and collaborate with interdisciplinary faculty.

This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the pharmacy workforce of the future by attracting and training the next generation of pharmacists and healthcare
leaders. This member of the academic team will also work closely with the Director of Admissions to develop and implement strategic outreach initiatives to identify, engage and recruit a diverse and talented pool of applicants to the Doctor of Pharmacy and Doctor of Public Health programs to build a strong pipeline from undergraduate institutions, community colleges and pre-pharmacy programs.

It was truly the calm after the storm when ACP's Dr. Ed Talbott captured this beautiful photo on campus. Our third year pharmacy students had just left for their rotations, and the summer term is just now gearing up. It won't be long until we welcome our next class of students ... the incoming class of 2029!

Please join us in congratulating ACP Alumna Jordan Smith (Class of 2016) upon her selection as the Kentucky Pharmacists Association Pharmicist of the Year award. She will receive the award tomorrow in Louisville, KY, during the KPhA annual conference president's dinner and awards ceremony.

The Pharmacist of the Year Award recognizes a pharmacist for outstanding professional activities undertaken during the current or previous calendar year, which resulted in a demonstrable benefit to the profession of pharmacy.

Smith, a district pharmacy supervisor for Walgreens, also operates her own company, MedicinLogic and a non-profit foundation, the Jordan Smith Community Care Foundation, both of which are grounded in pharmacy and improving healthcare literacy, access and outcomes.

Congratulations, Jordan! We are proud of you and your many accomplishments!

ACP was pleased to be a part of the Buchanan County Chamber of Commerce Family Fun Day yesterday at Poplar Gap Park! We offered free blood pressure and blood sugar checks at our wellness booth at the event. The evening ended with a drone show which was pretty spectacular!

Members of the Appalachian College of Pharmacy AMPS (Apothecary Medicinal Plant Society) enjoyed an after class hike at the Breaks Interstate Park on Wednesday, June 3. The weather was perfect for the evening hike and included a side trip to visit the tallest bridge in Virginia.

Appalachian College of Pharmacy Alumna Dr. Jennifer Hammons, who earned both her Doctor of Pharmacy degree (2018) and her Doctor of Public Health degree (2025) from ACP has been named the Director of Rural Health Advancement at the college.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Hammons as the ACP director of rural health advancement,” said ACP Provost and Dean Susan Mayhew. “Not only was she the first ACP student to graduate from our new Doctor of Public Health program, but she also double majored in the program, earning her DrPH in rural health and in integrative and preventative health.

“In her new role at ACP, she will not only be teaching our students, but she will also be overseeing rural health access programming and advocating for pharmacists’ roles in underserved communities like ours,” Mayhew added.

There's still time to register!! The Appalachian College of Pharmacy invites students entering seventh grade and beyond who are interested in learning more about the pharmacy profession to attend one of our annual pharmacy summer camps.

The camp is free of charge for all attendees. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Activities include learning about the pharmacy profession from expert faculty, conducting patient assessments, exploring pharmacy compounding techniques, practicing pharmacotherapy on a human simulator, hearing from students about their experiences at ACP, attending an admissions workshop session, and taking a tour.

We marked World Celebration Day here at ACP last Thursday! Hosted by the ACP Diversity Task Force, the event was a great way for our students, faculty and staff to come together to learn about our students and their different backgrounds and cultures. There was music, talent demonstrations, games, prizes and all kinds of good food!
