There is a lot of discussion about this topic right now nationwide - here's our local government response and instructions:

Today we received reports of people receiving seeds in the mail from China that they did not order. The seeds are sent in packages usually stating that the contents are jewelry. Unsolicited seeds could be invasive, introduce diseases to local plants, or be harmful to livestock.

Here's what to do if you receive unsolicited seeds from another country:

Take pictures of the shipping label and send them to the Pest Exclusion division inbox: [email protected]

Double bag the envelope and drop them in the San Marcos (151 E. Carmel Street, San Marcos, CA 92078) or County Operations Complex (9325 Hazard Way, San Diego, CA 92123) sample drop box.

If you can't drop them off, please do not to throw the seeds away. The department will compile a list of addresses and forward them to USDA for pick-up.
