Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, these are trying times. Students and teachers in the local public schools are especially affected due to their close quarters in the classroom every school day. Teachers and students in our community have to adapt to learn effectively and efficiently while still staying healthy and not spreading the virus. In some cases, this requires changes to classroom logistics or additional supplies and materials to be able to maintain social distancing and reduce the spread of germs. These can be costly endeavors in an already underfunded school system, sometimes requiring corners to be cut that could compromise the health and safety of students and teachers alike.
As part of our Small Group Communication class at Weber State University, we’re going to try and help the student and teachers in our area. Our goal for this project is to collect funds to donate to teachers through the Ogden School Foundation’s “Fund a Teacher” program to help them mitigate the negative effects of the pandemic on students and their learning environment. As well as help them make take all possible measures to help keep everyone in the school safe and healthy. This will have a direct impact on local students and teachers by funding things like “Socially Distanced P.E. Class” and “In School Health and Safety” to help ease the negative impact the pandemic has on both their health and daily classroom activities and allow them to focus on what they’re there for—education. Our goal will be $2,000 to be distributed among the active requests from teachers at the time the project concludes.
