There is a lot of different stories of spirits or ghosts or hauntings in and around Ogden. Some are well known and documented and some are tragic accidents that leave something or someone behind.
That’s the case with Frank Yentzer. A ticket clerk at the Union Depot in 1923. To set the scene, a fire had destroyed most of the station on February 13, 1923. The station however, remained open and trains were bustling in and out. Ticket sales still needed to happen and employees of the station still needed to show up to work regardless if the structure was stable or not. Just a few days after the fire Frank got up as usual to go to work, said goodbye to his family and walked the few blocks from his home to work. He stayed busy all day, maybe seemingly busier, and worked through the day in his makeshift ticket book under the clock tower.
According to the Fire Chief at the time, he said the tower should have been taken down prior to reopening. He saw it unsafe. Even the newspaper on the 14th said the clock tower was supposed to be torn down since it was made to be a “menace to safety”.
The station was meant to be repaired but after the accident, it was torn down completely.
Due to the damage caused by the fire and irreparable damage specifically to the roof a large stone crashed down killing Frank instantly. Some believe he stays at the station, no ill will, just hanging around the place he was last alive.

It's Hispanic Heritage Month and we are highlighting local restauranteur Javier Chavez Sr. of Javier's Authentic Mexican Food.
While earning a degree in engineering at the University of Zacatecas, Javier discovered a talent and passion for the sport of Track and Field. He excelled and set records. Javier had a stellar track career competing internationally, in the World Championships and Pan American games. He went to the 1976 Olympic Trials in Canada where he raced the 1,500 meters missing the win by a split-second. Weber State took notice of Javier’s unique skills, and offered him a scholarship, leading to an impressive track career while earning a degree.
He came to the U.S. on an athletic scholarship in 1977 from Zacatecas, Mexico when he was 28 years old and didn’t know English. “It was very hard,” he recalls. “When you’re in another country, you’re dreaming of coming to the United States to live the American dream.”
Javier always loved the restaurant business, and dreamed of starting his own. After years of working as a dishwasher, cook, and managing restaurants for others his big moment came. Javier and his family saved enough money to rent a little building near the railroad tracks. Javier’s Authentic Mexican Food restaurant on 29th street in Ogden officially opened for business February 4, 1991. The original location is still open today.
Javier’s Mexican Restaurant is one of the oldest restaurants in the area and has been in operation for over 35 years.
Javier contributes his impact on his community and success to his parents. He said, "My parents taught us good values, hard work and to get an education," he said. "For me, nothing is impossible. Things might get tough, but perseverance is the way you do it."

Once named Main Street, Washington Boulevard has been an icon of the evolution of Ogden. It was one of the first streets that had a variety of businesses even before it had decent streets.

We are fortunate to have a few different images of various times during our history that show how the street changed.

Today in 1901 the corner stone of the Carnegie Library was laid in Ogden City after the city created the Ogden City Library Society what was formed to fundraise for the new library. The territory had always been pro-public libraries as early as 1864 when the territory formed the Ogden Library Board. In a letter to philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, the community asked that he fund a library for the city. He offered the city $25,000 if " the city would arrange an annual maintenance fund of ten percent of that amount and furnish a suitable site."
It took a few years to finish the construction but on April 1, 1903 the library had its official grand opening. The Carnegie library was open until 1962 when the demand outgrew the space and the building needed extensive repairs. The community tried to just expand the building but it was never approved. The new library sits at Jefferson Ave and 25th
