We’ve got two more exciting camps to spotlight: Webcats and Energize the Future, each designed for different age groups!

Webcats gives students a chance to dive into HTML and CSS and build foundational web design skills.

Energize the Future focuses on hands-on activities and career exploration in energy engineering.

Both are week-long experiences that help students build skills, get creative, and explore future possibilities in a fun, supportive environment.

Join us for a free after-school program (May 11–22), Monday–Friday from 4–6 PM! 💻

This hands-on program introduces students to the basics of electronics and programming using Raspberry Pi. Students will learn how to control LEDs, read inputs, and build simple interactive systems while developing problem-solving and computational thinking skills.

No prior experience is required, making it a great starting point for students interested in technology, engineering, or automotive systems.

Artificial Intelligence: The History of a Brand

Join us for a talk with Dr. Thomas Haigh, Professor and Chair of History at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, as he explores how artificial intelligence functions not just as a technology but as a brand.

📅 February 12
⏰ 12:15 PM
📍 Noorda 305/307
💻 Zoom: weber.edu/east/speaker-series.html

In this presentation, Dr. Haigh uses the concept of a brand to make sense of what AI is and how it has evolved since its emergence in the late 1950s. Brands do important cultural and economic work: they demarcate ownership, compete for market share, help sell products, and impute shared qualities to otherwise distinct things. Haigh argues that artificial intelligence, understood as a brand, operates in much the same way. In this remarkable historical account, he traces how the AI brand has been repeatedly hyped and redefined. Having seen off competition from rival brands such as machine learning, big data, and cybernetics it now appears stronger than ever.

Some of our students got the chance to learn about the women who helped shape Weber County’s past. They went on a Historic 25th Street walking tour with Dr. Katie Nelson, who shared stories about struggle, teamwork and success. Everyone enjoyed good conversations, new connections and time with classmates and colleagues.

The event was spearheaded by: Rainie Ingram Graduate Enrollment Director, Devon Sanborn WSU Society of Women Engineers President and Mackenzie Bristow Computer Science Instructor.
