Explore & Express the Science Around Us: Secrets of the Dessert
April 16, 2026 from 5-7 pm on Zoom

What don't we see at first glance?
Join us as we explore the world around us! Have you ever wondered...

🍰 Why a recipe could call for baking soda, baking powder, or both?
🍪 What exactly is the difference between a macaroon and a macaron?
🍮 How to interpret "high altitude" instructions?

Using cross-cutting science and math concepts, participants will explore the chemistry of baking through confection, patisserie, and more and do so much high-altitude conversion math they'll always have an answer for students' "when are we ever going to use this" questions.

APRIL FOOL'S, of course!

But we are not joking when we say you only have two more weeks to register for our Secrets of the Desert webinar... or how many times our team has proofread "desert" to make sure it doesn't accidentally say "dessert" over the past few months. Our WSU Arts Learning Collaborative and SUU Arts Fusion teams have been hard at work getting activities and supply packets ready, and we can't wait to explore Utah's deserts with you.

Explore the artistic possibilities of shape, pattern, texture, and color as you build and layer your own block prints using these familiar bricks. You'll create a vibrant, layered composition that combines text and imagery—all while discovering creative ways to bring this playful process into your classroom. Perfect for K-12 educators, this session includes materials, practical applications, and curriculum connections that will inspire both you and your students. Come ready to build, print, and play!
