Honored to be a part of the Marquette Academy graduation ceremony yesterday where I was able to recognize Class of 2026 Valedictorian Ava Offerman and Salutatorian Serenity Guzman. Both young women walked in our ceremony last week because they both earned credentials from IVCC before graduating from high school.

Serenity earned her IAI certificate and Ava earned both an Associate of Arts and Associate of Science as part of the Running Start program at Illinois Valley Community College

On top of that, they are both dedicated to service to the community, leadership within their school, and the highest academic standard. Congratulations to both of you and thank you for allowing me to be part of your day. Congrats to all the graduates at Marquette Academy

One of the most important things I believe we can do as leaders is to celebrate the legacy of those who came before us.

This week I was able to celebrate two amazing educators in different ways-Gil Meyer and Bob Byrne. At each event, the dedication that these men had to their profession, to their students, to their colleagues, and to the community was at the forefront. Hearing colleagues share so many great stories and memories of the time that they spent together at IVCC was heartwarming and a true privilege.

Dedicating the artwork in memory of Bob, who we lost in 2024, was a touching way to honor his commitment to Chemistry and to learning💜💜 Illinois Valley Community College

The 2026 Commencement Program was filled with excitement, joy, fabulous words of wisdom from our speaker (Way to go Zulma!!) and a rousing standing ovation for Judy-who graduated at the young age of 84. I am so thankful for our planning team—they work for 6 months to address every detail to make the day special for our graduates and our retiring faculty.

Illinois Valley Nurses Honor GuardThe Illinois Valley Community College Nurse Pinning ceremony was touching, as always. It is one of the most special ceremonies and this year, the Illinois Valley Nurse Honor Guard joined us to honor our graduates. Seeing generations of nurses come together to welcome our newest nurses was simply beautiful.

AIllinois Valley Community College Nursing Programrs has heard the story of my mom – who came back as a single mom of three young kids do better our lives by going through the nursing program. To have her there in the honor guard today made it extra special for me as well!
