Next week is bound to be full of remarkable music-making as we welcome artist in residence, composer, Lowell Liebermann to OCU! Unabashedly romantic and modern, Liebermann is internationally recognized as an artist of uncommon profundity and popularity. With over 140 works written in all genres & more than 150 recordings to his credit, it’s truly a privilege to work with such a prolific artist! We hope you’ll join us for the following events:
Wednesday, April 10th, 10-11am at Wanda L. Bass School of Music - Oklahoma City University: Flute masterclass with Lowell Liebermann featuring members of the Oklahoma City University Flute Studio performing Liebermann’s Flute Sonata, Flute Concerto, Soliloquy for Solo Flute, and Night Music for Flute, Clarinet, & Piano. Free and open to the public!
Thursday, April 11th, 7:30PM at Visual and Performing Arts Center at OCCC: OCU Symphony will perform their season finale concert. The evening will begin with Liebermann’s mesmerizing Concerto for Flute, Harp, & Orchestra, featuring soloists Parthena Owens and Emily Duncan. This composition beautifully illustrates the intricate harmony and deep connection between the flute and harp. This piece will serve as a celebration for the world premiere of Liebermann’s Second Flute Concerto with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and to honor the legacy of Parthena Owens, retiring this spring after 35 years as OCU faculty!
Following the concerto, we will perform Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 1, “The Titan.” This work promises to captivate and uplift the audience with its profound intensity and breadth. In the spirit of celebration and community, we are offering tickets to the concert free of charge! See you there!
