The Jeanne Hoffman Smith Center for Film & Lit at OCU The Jeanne Hoffman Smith Center for Film & Literature at OCU The Center is home to the OCU Film Institute, which houses thousands of incredible pictures.

The Oklahoma City University Jeanne Hoffman Smith Center for Film & Literature is an educational organization dedicated to enriching the lives of Oklahoma students and citizens through the cinematic and written arts. Each year, the Institute holds international and art house film screenings allowing attendees to explore themes central to all our lives. In addition, the Center hosts the 'Let’s Talk

About It' books series, as well as the Thatcher Hoffman Smith Spring Poetry Series, both of which provide valuable opportunities to explore the written arts in new and exciting ways.

Mark your calendars for September 10th—we’re teaming up with Red Dirt Poetry and Oklahoma Film Exchange for an evening celebrating Mary Oliver 🍃

We’ll kick things off with a poetry reading & open mic (nature-themed, in true Oliver spirit), then settle in for a screening of the brand new documentary Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World.

Want to read a poem of your own? There’s a spot for that on the RSVP, but spaces are limited!

This will take place at Oklahoma Film Exchange with the poetry & open mic beginning at 6:30. Film screening starts at 7:30.

This fall, OCU’s Jeanne Hoffman Smith Center for Film & Literature is hosting two Let’s Talk About It sessions. The theme is “Sovereign Worlds”: a two-session reading and discussion series exploring Native American sovereignty, identity, and cultural contributions, made possible by a grant from Oklahoma Humanities.

Sept. 15: Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich - Led by Dr. Karen Youmans, OCU Professor of English & Honors Program Director

Oct. 20: Custer Died for Your Sins by Vine Deloria, Jr. - Led by Dr. Hugh Foley, Rogers State University

Both sessions are free and open to the public at 6:30 p.m. in OCU’s Petree College Walker Center, Room 151. Books available to borrow at the Dulaney-Browne Library. Come to one or both. No membership required!

Due to tonight’s inclement weather, we have made the difficult decision to postpone this evening’s Let’s Talk About It session with Dr. Ken Hada on Aldo Leopold’s Sand County Almanac. The safety of our attendees is our top priority, and we don’t want anyone on the road in difficult conditions.
