One of OU's scholars, Uriel Marín, has an Exhibit opening in Norman!

"Water Fables
The exhibit is a conceptually and technically diverse exploration of water as a living being. Some of the works are abstract representations of water’s constant and cyclical transformation. The pieces use an economical and synthetic approach to capture movement and dynamism. Other works exhibited explore the sensual character of water. They are inspired in the symbolic association between water and fantastical female figures represented in the mythologies of diverse cultures. These stories personify water in the supernatural feminine as a way of understanding and explaining the natural world. Composed of traditional printmaking techniques – woodcuts, lithographs, and silkscreen – as well as painting and drawing, Water Fables is a visual narrative that flows through an introspective reflection on the vital being that shapes and defines human existence.

Uriel Marín is a visual artist from Veracruz, México. In his creative process, he explores multiple and expandable graphics based on drawing and knowledge of traditional printmaking techniques. He uses intuitive experimentation to create iconography that is harmonious and dynamic. Uriel has built his artistic career in Oaxaca City, Mexico, often referred to as the printmaking capital of Latin America. He founded the graphic art collective, Arte Cocodrilo, with a group of emerging artists in 2005, then founded Radio Rizoma arts and culture community radio program in 2015, and the art studio and artist-in-residence program, Gallo-Dragon, in 2017. He has also served the Oaxacan Ministry of Culture as a visual arts instructor in Indigenous communities around the state. Uriel's work is influenced by the ukiyo-e traditional Japanese prints, which he has explored through three trips to Japan in which he worked as an artist-in-residence at Osaka University of Arts. His work has appeared in solo and collective exhibitions in South Africa, Germany, Slovakia, England, Japan, and Mexico as well as San Francisco and Los Angeles, California. His art has received honors from the national and state ministries of culture. Uriel is currently a Visiting Artist at the University of Oklahoma."

Important International Travel News. Please keep these developments in mind when planning any kind of international travel. summarized from the White House briefing on November 26th:

Based on these developments, and in light of the extensive cross-border transit and proximity in Southern Africa, the detection of B.1.1.529 cases in some Southern African countries, and the lack of widespread genomic sequencing in Southern Africa, the United States Government, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), within the Department of Health and Human Services, has reexamined its policies on international travel and concluded that further measures are required to protect the public health from travelers entering the United States from the:

Republic of Botswana
the Kingdom of Eswatini
the Kingdom of Lesotho
the Republic of Malawi
the Republic of Mozambique
the Republic of Namibia
the Republic of South Africa
the Republic of Zimbabwe.

In addition to these travel restrictions, the CDC shall implement other mitigation measures for travelers departing from the countries listed above and destined for the United States, as needed.

The national emergency caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak in the United States continues to pose a grave threat to our health and
