Starting college comes with a lot to figure out—and sophomore Jaun Mitchell has some advice that can make the transition a little easier.

During Olivet’s Transition Ceremony, Jaun shared the lessons he learned during his first year, from checking your email and going to class to getting involved, staying organized and asking for help.

His advice is practical, but his biggest message may be the simplest:

💬 “You don’t have to figure everything out by yourself.”

What happens when you start college without knowing exactly what you want?

For junior Jaeonna Shelton, the answer was: you find your spark. 💥

When Jaeonna arrived at Olivet, she was undecided and focused more on short-term goals than her long-term future. She struggled to get out of her comfort zone and find her place. But as she explored new interests, got involved and met new people, something changed.

During our Transition Ceremony for incoming students and their families, Jaeonna shared the lessons she learned along the way—including this advice:

💬 “Try everything till you get a spark of something that feels natural and makes you happy.”

College searching just got a little easier. 🎓
The University of Olivet is proud to be a part of the new MI College Match program, which gives Michigan high school seniors a simpler way to discover colleges that may be a great fit. Students create one profile, and qualified students may receive admission and scholarship offers without a traditional application at the initial matching stage.

A week ago, we welcomed our newest first-year students to The University of Olivet! From unloading cars and moving into their new homes to meeting roommates, exploring campus and making those first memories, Move-In Day was full of excitement.
