University of Olivet Archives Hi All! Thanks for your feedback on our posts! When our great student researchers (Archive Avengers)

Our mission here on Facebook is to interact and collaborate with Olivet College alumni, current students, and the general public by sharing images of our archival material, as well as current news and stories from the past. We would love to receive additional stories from our OC alumni, as well as other information that we may not have already, in the hopes of making this site a fun, informative,

and interactive space to share about our history. Our Olivet College Archives mission is to become the central site of Olivet College history and a vibrant learning environment of interaction and collaboration. We primarily document, preserve, and share our institutional and administrative history, as well as the educational and social experiences of Olivet students during their enrollment. As a physically and virtually active space, we enable the past, present, and future Olivet community, as well as external researchers, to engage with the longstanding history of our college.

The students here at Olivet are preparing to register for classes. Everyone is also gearing up to get ready for their large final projects and tests. These students really are working hard as ever to get ready for the next year. Below is a photo of a biology classroom from the 1800s where these scholars are looking through microscopes. These folks were studying hard just like students today.

Sara Benedict attended the University of Olivet and was an art instructor here from the years of 1864-1868. She had many siblings that went to the University and had several other family members that came here as well. She was an avid lover of art and her four children and lived in quite a few places throughout her life. She lived in Paris for a while and studied in Michigan, Chicago, New York, and Massachusetts. We here at the University of Olivet have an artist reception tonight from 5pm to 7pm for the artworks that are held in the gallery space on the second floor of the art building. The show is titled "Happy as a Lark" and is the curated artwork of Zoe Couvillion.

As we celebrate Founders Day here at the university we would like to take the time to talk about one of our founders Oramel Hosford. Oramel Hosford taught the very first class at Olivet and was one of the first people to travel to the school. He was a professor of physics, mathematics, and astronomy. He and his family left behind a legacy of knowledge and are the reason the Hosford House got its name.
