October is Breast Cancer Awarensa Month! Cancer sucks, most likely we all know someone who has been affected with cancer or a woman with breast cancer. This month, think about donating to help with the process of kicking breast cancer’s butt! 💖

Monday, October 19th, 2020 all csm students return to in-person classes. Per csm, please continue your cleanliness and mask up. Stay strong!

Hey there SSESO!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and the Counseling Department is here to help promote good mental health!
This is an especially important time to talk about feelings related to the recent changes and to address and reduce anxiety and any other emotions experienced related to working to integrate what is a new "normal".

During the month of May, the Counseling Department is offering two 30 minute meeting weekly check in’s, to come together and talk about how you are feeling about and/or adapting to these changes this pandemic has presented.
Tuesdays and Fridays from 12pm - 12:30, please join me, Andrea Joyce, Director of the Counseling Department, on Zoom by clicking the link below for these chats (please know this is not like group therapy so, confidentiality is not present in this arena.......but it doesn’t mean you cannot have a good dialogue here about how you are feeling/dealing with things!!). It is good to connect and understand you are not alone!

Click on the Zoom link below to participate and please add the password when entering the room!

Hey there SSESO!! Here's a fun one for ya 😁

Sometimes getting physical can help with our mental wellness... and friends are one of the most important things for our mental health.

We might be socially distanced physically, but technology allows us to stay connected, so "grab" a friend, or 2 or 3, and spell out each other's name for a great workout that will have you struggling & laughing together 👭🏼👫👬

If you can't "grab" a friend, spell out the names of all the friends you're missing... or spell out the names of the members of your family/household!

Good Morning CSM!

Here's another set of exercises from Dawn that you can do any where, any time, for any amount of time, with or without equipment, alone or with a friend (socially distanced, of course!)

All exercises can be modified or intensified based on your fitness level. And, Bicycles can be substituted for Russian Twists if you're working on a hard surface or if they bother your tail bone/lower back.

Alright here's another one for ya!

Short on time and not sure what to do or how to get a good burn with the time you have... no problem 😁

Set your timer for 15mins (or however much time you can spare) and complete the number of reps designated for each exercise for
As
Many
Rounds
As
Possible!

Take a quick 30sec break when you need it, but AFTER you complete all 5 exercises instead of resting between each... remember when you have less time to workout you have less time for breaks if you want to get the most out of your quickie workout 😉

Don't forget to include a short warm up and a quick cool down to prepare and repair those muscles 💪

Alright SSESO, it's been a week and as promised here's a little "Fitness From Anywhere" courtesy of our very own Dawn Seger to get you moving and into an at-home fitness routine... these can be done from anywhere inside or outside, with or without equipment... so grab the house mates or video chat a friend and let's get going :)
This workout has no specified amount of time, so set your own time, whatever you have time for... 20mins, 30mins... 3 or 4min AMRAP sets w/ 1min breaks until you get bored... MAKE IT FUN & manageable for YOU!!!

*regular push ups, modified/knee push ups or any of your favorite stylized push up can be substituted for the spiderman push up (which is bringing 1 knee up into an oblique crunch as you go down in the push up and alternating sides with each push up)

*equipment options: light/medium dumbells or kettlebells, resistance bands, soup cans, bottles of water, a jug/bottle of something medium-heavy to hold out in front or overhead during wall sit.

Hey there SSESO!

We hope you all are doing well during this tough time. It is difficult, but we can get through this. Don't forget to take some time for yourself, maintenance and more while getting your priorities done!

We know that all student organization events are cancelled, but whose to say we can't implement something online? Our very own club member, Dawn Segar, a senior in the Kinesiology Program, has decided to make her very own YouTube channel featuring workouts from her home to the comfort of your own! Dawn is an avid gym lover who is a fitness instructor/coach at Kosama. She is skilled physicially while having the Kinesiology knowledge/background! Dawn is in the way for developing her channel which we will implement to this page to both support her and stay active at home!

We look forward to being able to exercise from home while staying safe! Please take care and check out future posts for workout videos!
