Caps off, Mavs! 🎓

To every senior walking the stage today: thank you for the stories you told, the broadcasts you produced, the conversations you led and the standard you set. The School of Communication is so proud of you.

The School of Communication Scholarship and Awards Committee reviewed many, many outstanding applications this year and awarded more than $60,000 in scholarships to deserving students.

This celebration was about more than awards. It honored the hard work, dedication and promise of our students, along with the families, friends, faculty and supporters who have helped them along the way.

Congratulations to all of our scholarship and award recipients. We are so proud of you! 🎉

Dr. Sharon Storch represented the UNO School of Communication at the Eastern Communication Association Conference, where she led an engaging panel titled “Life Isn’t Fair: The Sooner You Realize It, The Happier You Will Be.”

The session sparked meaningful conversation about how people understand and respond to perceived unfairness in their personal and professional lives. Dr. Storch also connected with 2025 UNO graduate Eva Burklund, now at the University of Pittsburgh, who presented a short course at the conference.

Congratulations to Dr. Storch, Eva and all involved in a successful !

Professor Allison Wakin’s Contemporary Presentations students wrapped up the semester by presenting their final Maverick Philanthropy Initiative projects to community partners at the Omaha Community Foundation.🕶️

The course challenges students to step outside their comfort zones, strengthen their presentation skills and learn how communication can create real connection and impact. Through their work, these Mavericks helped shine a light on important needs across Omaha while partnering with organizations making a difference in our community.🏢🏘️

We’re proud of Professor Wakin and her students for using communication in such a meaningful way.👏🏻

Congratulations to UNO School of Communication student and MavForensics team member Colin Gibbons, who placed 6th in the nation at the 152nd Interstate Oratory Association Tournament in Gainesville, Florida!🐊

This photo with his coach, Amanda VonGoodrich, is especially meaningful because it captures a national-stage moment for Colin and MavForensics. Interstate Oratory is the oldest public speaking competition on the continent, and this year marked 152 years of collegiate forensics excellence.

We are so proud of Colin for his hard work, advocacy and dedication to this activity.

The School of Communication is also grateful for Professor VonGoodrich’s leadership and the steady support she gives our students as they grow, compete and shine.

👏 Congratulations, Colin!
