Last week, the Student Bar Association held the annual Barrister’s Ball at the beautiful Coco Palm Restaurant. University of La Verne CLPS students, faculty, and staff were honored at the annual award ceremony, including the Heart of La Verne Awards, the celebration of the 2025–2026 Student Bar Association Board, and the announcement of the incoming 2026–2027 Student Bar Association Board.

With a festive “Midnight Garden” theme, the night was filled with delicious food, casino tables, a photo booth, and so many memorable moments. Additionally, we were treated to a stunning sunset view overlooking the city at Coco Palm, making the evening even more special.

A fun night to honor so many and to celebrate together!

A big thank you to our Student Bar Association for hosting such an amazing event!

✨Networking & Career Fair was a success✨
On Thursday, March 19, our College of Law & Public Service Networking & Career Fair brought together students and a wide range of employers for a day of connection and opportunity. It was great to see so many students engaging in meaningful conversations and taking steps toward their career goals.
A special highlight was the San Bernardino Superior Court RV, which was an incredible addition and provided valuable access and engagement opportunities for both morning and evening students!
Thank you to everyone who attended and to the organizations who joined us! We look forward to continuing to support your career journey! 💼🤝

The University of La Verne College of Law and Public Service is thrilled to celebrate current second-year student, Alyssa Taylor Lavalle, for being selected as a 2026 Founder’s Fellow by the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA).

“I really found a passion for public service. I got to be part of the impact first hand.”

Lavalle started her career in Parks and Recreation through working with children and local community programs. Her experience in those programs motivated her doctoral research to focus on mentorship as a tool to enhance next generation public sector leaders and protect institutional knowledge which was passed down onto her by her mentors.

We are honored to celebrate this achievement.

Last week, members of the College of Law and Public Service community came together to support our alumni sitting for the February Bar Exam.

Staff, professors, and fellow alumni volunteered their time to hand out box lunches and offer encouragement to our February bar takers throughout the exam days.

We are incredibly proud of the dedication and perseverance it takes to reach this milestone. The entire CLPS community is cheering you on and wishing you the very best as you await your results.

On behalf of Dean Kevin S. Marshall

As we reach the middle of Spring Break, we hope you are enjoying this time to rest and recharge both academically and personally.

As Dean Marshall often reminds our students, you are engaged in one of the “fastest marathons of your life.” Finals will be here before you know it. Stay the course. You are here for a reason, and you have the capacity to succeed.

Please note that the CLPS building remains open during Spring Break for students who would like a quiet place to study. Administrative, student, and operational services also remain available during normal business hours this week.

Enjoy the rest of your Spring Break, Leopards.

The University of La Verne College of Law proudly celebrates alumna Malalai Farooqi, Class of 2012, on her historic appointment as San Bernardino’s newest court commissioner.

On February 6, Commissioner Farooqi took her oath of office with the San Bernardino County Superior Court, becoming the first known Afghan-American judicial officer in the United States.

“Today isn’t just about me. It’s about all the young Afghan women and girls that have been forced back into the shadows. There are over 2.2 million of them who still cannot receive an education beyond the sixth grade, and I have thought of that every step of the way.”

A former managing attorney and dedicated defense advocate, Commissioner Farooqi has built her career on service, courage, and a steadfast commitment to justice. Her journey from La Verne Law to the bench reflects the leadership, integrity, and resilience that define our alumni community.

We are honored to celebrate this milestone and the powerful representation she brings to the judiciary.
