Brittney Punt, an alumna needs our support and prayers. Her husband was critically injured in a catastrophic small plane crash and sustained severe burns over 60% of his body along with other traumatic injuries, including a broken leg requiring surgery. He was flown to Seattle from Anchorage and that’s where Brittney is with him now. Please pray for his recovery and for Brittney and their three boys as they all have a long journey ahead!

Housing prayer request
They are also urgently praying for affordable furnished mid-term housing within walking distance of Harborview Hospital for Brittney during this extended hospitalization for her. Seattle housing near the hospital is expensive, and having a extremely close and walkable haven homebase would be an enormous blessing for Brittney and Matt during this season.

To our graduating BSW seniors — we are incredibly proud of you. ❤️

You leave this department not only with knowledge and skills, but with the heart of social work: compassion, courage, advocacy, humility, and a commitment to human dignity.

You have learned to sit with hard stories, challenge injustice, care deeply for others, and keep showing up even when the work is difficult. The world needs social workers who can see humanity clearly — and we believe each of you carries that calling forward in meaningful ways.

As you step into the profession, remember:
Social work is not just what you do. It is how you see people. It is how you choose hope, relationship, and justice in a world that often needs all three.

Thank you for the ways you have shaped this department and one another. We cannot wait to see the communities, organizations, families, and lives you will impact.

Congratulations, Class of 2026. We are proud to call you social workers. 🎓✨

Many of you know Lucy from behind the camera lens 📸 as an amazing photographer. She’s captured incredible moments of our athletes, students, and campus community with creativity, care, and an amazing eye for seeing people at their best.

But this semester, Lucy has also been doing another kind of important work.

As a social work practicum student in child welfare and child abuse prevention, she has spent her days stepping into difficult spaces with compassion, courage, and grace.

What stands out most to us about Lucy is her ability to see the humanity in people others might quickly dismiss. Lucy reminds us that every person is still worthy of dignity and care.

This work is not easy. It asks a lot of those called to it. But Lucy has leaned into it with thoughtfulness, humility, and heart.

Lucy, we are incredibly proud of the woman you are and the work you are called to do. We cannot wait to see the ways you will continue partnering with God in bringing hope, healing, and redemption to others.

Congratulations on being selected as our Social Work Outstanding Senior ❤️

“In the U.S. today—amid debates about racial justice, inequality, polarization, and the role of the church—these lines from the Belhar Confession call faith communities to be active participants, not neutral observers, in speaking truth to power to confront injustice and to foster reconciliation. This is the call of the Gospel and as disciples of Jesus we must have a serious commitment to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God.”
—Rev. Eddy Alemán, RCA general secretary

✨ Our junior Social Work majors represented our department with excellence at the Regional Undergraduate Social Science Research Conference!

Students presented original research exploring:
🔹 How political ideology influences choice of academic major
🔹 The relationship between religiosity and mental health

We are proud of their thoughtful scholarship, critical inquiry, and commitment to understanding complex social issues that impact individuals and communities.
