The Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, supports students pursuing STEM degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral level.
Eligible applicants must be citizens of the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, or New Zealand; at least 18 by January 1, 2027; maintain a 3.0 GPA; and attend a regionally accredited U.S. college or university. Recipients receive full tuition, annual stipends, health and book allowances, and paid summer internships at DoD facilities. In return, scholars complete a civilian service commitment with the Department of Defense after graduation.
