Our annual conference began with a simple but meaningful purpose: to fill gaps in our community and bring people together around better support for individuals with autism and their families. Before the Melisa Nellesen Center for Autism (MNCA) had a home on the UVU campus, this conference served as a starting point for connection, learning, and collaboration.

Over the years, it has continued to grow and evolve alongside the needs of our community and the mission of the MNCA, strengthening professional capacity, expanding access to evidence-based practices, and fostering a true sense of belonging across Utah.

It is now the largest conference in the region. Its impact is rooted in something deeper: meaningful relationships, shared learning, and a collective commitment to doing better for the individuals and families we serve!

For the past 8 years the UVU Dental Hygiene program has partnered directly with the Melisa Nellesen Center for Autism.

The Dental Hygiene students receive autism specific training in advance and then plan a field trip for autistic children from local preschool and kindergarten classes. The mutually beneficial partnership provides children that may have more difficulty with dental experiences, to get acquainted with healthy dental practices in a safe and fun environment.

Simultaneously, UVU students are engaged in a hands-on learning opportunity and introduction to many children who may all have autism but have unique characteristics from their diagnosis. Everyone benefits from the field trip!
