This week, the University of Maine Police Department proudly recognizes National Police Week 2026.

National Police Week is a time to honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of law enforcement officers across our nation — especially those who gave their lives in the line of duty.

We are grateful for the dedication of our officers, dispatchers, campus partners, and law enforcement colleagues who work every day to protect and serve our university community. Their commitment helps keep our campus safe, supportive, and strong.

Please join us in thanking the men and women of law enforcement for their service and remembering the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice.

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week 2026:

Every year during the second week of April, the telecommunications personnel in the public safety community, are honored. This week-long event, initially set up in 1981 by Patricia Anderson of the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office in California, is a time to celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public. It is a week that should be set aside so everyone can be made aware of their hard work and dedication. We appreciate everything our Dispatchers do for our community!

Thank you Jason, Mike, Shawn, Steve, Myles, Toni & Randi for being such an important part of our team! - Chief Flagg
