The University of Maine's Business & Law Clinic was featured by WMTW-TV last week!

The story highlights that when students are given the opportunity to work on real business challenges, the impact extends far beyond the classroom.

Through the clinic, MaineMBA and Maine Law students are partnering with Maine entrepreneurs and small businesses to provide strategic support while gaining firsthand experience in consulting, problem-solving, and client engagement. At the same time, business owners are accessing valuable resources that can help them navigate growth and pursue new opportunities.

It's a powerful example of how higher education can contribute directly to Maine's business community while preparing the next generation of leaders.

The Boston Globe recently conducted a joint interview with Dr. Erin Percival Carter and Dr. Jason Entsminger on the value of Maine’s brand and its tourism business landscape.

Dr. Percival Carter, quoted in the article, co-authored a study that found that consumers are willing to pay more for Maine services and products because they associate the Maine brand with a strong work ethic and a sense of craftsmanship, on top of its rugged coastline, picturesque landscapes, and close-knit communities.

Dr. Jason Entsminger's contributions, while unquoted, were reflected in The Boston Globe Story. Read it here: https://www.bostonglobe.com/2026/05/28/lifestyle/beyond-lobster-shacks-lighthouses-boomerangs-are-fueling-maines-revival-top-destination/

🦞New research from the Maine Business School found that consumers are willing to pay more for lobster harvested using ropeless fishing technology designed to reduce whale entanglement risks.

The study, led by Dr. Qiujie "Angie" Zheng, Associate Professor of Business Analytics, found that consumers would pay an average of $3.42 more for a lobster roll when informed about the animal welfare benefits tied to ropeless technology.

The research highlights how sustainability, consumer behavior, and Maine’s iconic lobster industry intersect in meaningful ways. The story has been picked up by several news outlets, including WMTW, Maine Public, CBC, and NEWS CENTER Maine.

🌲 Tourism plays a major role in strengthening Maine’s economy — especially in rural communities.

In a recent article from The Ellsworth American , Dr. Jason Entsminger shared insight into how visitor spending creates lasting economic impact throughout Hancock County and Downeast Maine.

“Every dollar that is spent within that community and stays within that community will have a multiplicative effect,” Entsminger said.

The story highlights how tourism supports local jobs, small businesses, infrastructure improvements, and year-round economic opportunities. It also explores how communities are working to extend the tourism season and create sustainable growth beyond the summer months.

Ready to turn your passion for sports into a career? 🏟️

Students from the Maine Business School recently traveled to Chicago to experience the professional sports industry up close—exploring career paths, meeting industry professionals, and seeing firsthand how business and sports intersect.

From behind-the-scenes insights to real-world networking, this trip gave students a front-row seat to what it takes to succeed in sports management. Opportunities like this are what set the MBS experience apart—learning doesn't just happen in the classroom.

"I'm very interested in the operational side of sports, so this was an incredible experience for me! This was my first professional baseball game. Sitting 9 rows behind home plate was amazing, and the pregame on-field experience made it even more memorable." - Quincy Clifford

Shout out to Professor Alex Versen for making this trip a reality!
