UMaine Upward Bound Welcome to the UMaine Upward Bound page! Check back often for updates from all the wonderful staff!

The Upward Bound program serves around 120 freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors attending high school in Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock, and Waldo counties, as well as the Greater Portland Area and Oxford Hills. Our students qualify economically, will usually be the first in the family to go to college, and are interested in pursuing higher education. This unique educational experience consi

sts of daily tutorials focusing on the areas of math, science, English composition, foreign language, and literature. In an enriched learning environment, students work on group and individual projects with teaching advisors. Courses are also offered in career development and the college selection process. Afternoon activities include either career related job-shadowing, individual project research or community service. Along with cultural and recreational activities, tutoring and personal counseling are also available.

Submit a design showcasing “What UB means to you” for the 2026 summer program t-shirt! Designs must be appropriate and submissions are open to all active UB students (with a preference to students attending the summer program. Submit your design (PNG/JPG) through the google form by May 1, 2026. Designs will be reviewed by UB staff. 🎓 SchoolHouse Connection Scholarship
Are you a student who has experienced homelessness and is preparing for college? The SchoolHouse Connection Scholarship is one of the few programs in the nation specifically designed to support youth who've faced homelessness.

Eligible students must:
• Be born on or after June 2, 2007
• Live in the U.S. (undocumented students welcome)
• Start college for the first time in 2027–2028
• Have experienced homelessness within the last six years
The scholarship is awarded a year early to provide meaningful college‑readiness support.
