We would like to acknowledge one of our students that has gone above and beyond on a multistate level. Andrew LeBlanc is from southern Louisiana and a member of the 2023 cohort. He was informed by a selection committee that he was nominated and amongst 250 nominees, selection by the Louisiana State Nurses Association District IV division of the American Nurses Association to receive the "Acadiana Celebrates Nursing" award. This award recognizes an outstanding nurse who has exemplified concern for humanity, contributed significantly to the profession, and shared skill and expertise by mentoring others. During finals week Spring 2021 he traveled back home to Louisiana to receive this prestigious award and we could not be more proud of him.
The LSNA President Dr. Econn Rooney spoke that Andrew demonstrates traits that we need more nurses to exemplify. She mentioned “Andrew wants caregivers to remember why you enter the field of nursing; the ultimate goal is to support the efforts of your organization in providing evidence based, goal oriented, patient centered best practice. In nursing you MUST be compassionate and empathetic. Be the advocate for the indigenous, the patients that have no voice. Stand your ground and be the nurse or administrator that speaks up for safe staffing solutions. But most importantly, be the vision and mentor that our future nurses will look up to. Set the bar high and show the world that “We knew what we were getting into when we signed up for this profession; we chose this avenue in life because our passion and story is to help others not expecting you’re welcome but thanking them always for allowing me to help them!” Secondly, laugh and always enjoy what you do, be able to laugh at yourself and with others. When helping others becomes your passion, the term “job” transitions to “joy!”
Congratulations Andrew! We are extremely proud of you!
