Food provided, including special snacks! 🍡🍬🥤

Whether you know a lot or a little about anime and manga, this talk will have something for everyone. Anime & Manga in America have a very different culture than much of the rest of the world. Librarian Andrea Thimesch will explore modern censorship in Anime & Manga including purposeful or inadvertent censorship that occurs via adapting media types or within translations.

We’ll explore how localization, AI censors, and adaptation from Manga to Anime can lead to censorship. We’ll also note the history of comic book reading and how Frederick Wertham’s 1950’s smear campaign against comics extended to comic, manga, and graphic novel censorship culture to today.

Food provided, including special snacks! 🍡🍬🥤
