Congratulations to Hannah McNeiley, an Art and Graphic Design major (with a minor in Animation), on earning the first place Project of the Year in the College Division of RiverValley Behavioral Health's "Be Kind to Your Mind" art competition!

Her winning painting, "Last in Line," took shape over nearly three weeks as part of her Honors Program work in ART 235: Painting I. Inspired by the mythological figure Atlas, the piece shows a woman holding back the physical weight of struggle as it flows into a well. It is reminder that everyone carries life's challenges differently, and that grace and kindness matter, for others and for ourselves.

"It is a great opportunity to be validated as an artist and a wonderful way to share my perspective visually," Hannah said. "I hope my art visually inspires our community to be kind to others and themselves when life hands them struggles."

Along with the top prize, Hannah received a $500 cash award, a deluxe art kit, college school supplies, and a certificate of achievement. Kentucky Wesleyan also received a matching $500 contribution in her honor. Professor Heather Logsdon, Art and Graphic Design Program Coordinator, was also in attendance to support Hannah and accept the matching contribution.

Way to go, Hannah! We're proud of you and the message your artwork carries resilience, compassion, empathy, and mental wellness ๐Ÿ’œ

Since arriving in Owensboro in 2021, Dr. Cousins has helped Kentucky Wesleyan grow in ways that will shape the student experience for years to come. Along the way, he and his family made Wesleyan home. We are deeply grateful for his leadership, his vision, and his belief in this community.

The work he helped set in motion continues, carried forward by our faculty, staff, and especially our students. Wesleyan's future is bright, and we move toward it together!

Kentucky Wesleyan College and the Owensboro Family YMCA are partnering to build a new school-age childhood center right here on our campus.

"Kentucky Wesleyan College is proud to become the new home for this project," said President Dr. James Cousins. "The College and the YMCA are joined by missions and compelled by many of the same purposes: service, education, family support, and the long-term health of our community."

For working families, affordable school-age childcare has long been hard to find. This partnership brings it back to our campus for the first time since 2000.

Additional details about the project, including timeline, site preparation, and program plans, will be announced as they are finalized.
