Students in Mr. Reeves Automotive Electrical/Electronic Systems I course took on practical shop work to master the essential art of thread repair. βοΈπ§ Proper fastener retention and clean thread ex*****on are critical when working on electrical components, brackets, and engine blocks. ππ©
During this hands-on lab, students completed the full step-by-step thread restoration process:
β οΈ Drilling: Precision drilling out the damaged threads using pneumatic air drills to prepare the hole. ππ¨
π§ Tapping: Carefully cutting new, oversized threads using hand taps and tap wrenches to match the insert specs. ππ©
βοΈ HeliCoil Installation: Threading in stainless steel HeliCoil inserts to restore internal threads back to factory strength and original bolt sizes. πͺβ¨
