Future leaders in action! ⭐

Forty-one rising ninth graders from Mississippi, Tennessee, and Florida joined us for our Rising 9th Graders Program, where they stepped into the role of lawmakers through hands-on legislative simulations. Students explored public policy issues, researched solutions, drafted and debated legislation, and gained firsthand insight into the legislative process and how government works.

We are proud to celebrate their hard work, curiosity, and commitment to making a positive impact in their communities.

A special thank-you to Representative Jeffrey Hulum III for serving as our guest judge for the annual Capitol Cup Award for Best Overall Legislation. We are grateful for his support and encouragement of the next generation of civic leaders! 🎉

Our current Lott Institute students interning in Washington DC enjoyed attending the 35th annual Mississippi on the Mall, where they had the chance to meet and network with alumni of our program. Seeing current students connect with former students and leaders in DC is a reminder of the lasting impact of the Lott Institute network. We’re proud of these students and excited to see where their journeys lead next!

Today, we celebrate every memory, milestone, and moment that brought the Class of 2026 here. Graduation may mark the end of this chapter, but it’s only the beginning of all the incredible things ahead.

A special thank you to Lott alum Caleb Herod for returning as our Medaling Ceremony keynote speaker and sharing words of encouragement with our graduates.

We are so proud of each of you member of the Class of 2026 and can’t wait to see where life takes you next. Once a Lottie, always a Lottie!

Dr. Melissa Jones, our Associate Director, connected with Lott alumni Katherine Sistrunk and Morgan Atkins Nelson at the 2026 Taste of the South Capitol Hill Reception. The event celebrated Mississippi as the 2026 Featured State and highlighted The Bean Path, a Mississippi-based organization dedicated to advancing STEM education and workforce development by expanding access to technology and digital skills. It’s always rewarding to reconnect with our alumni and see the meaningful ways they continue to give back to their communities after graduation.

Andy Flores has been named a 2026 Paul and Daisy Soros Fellow, a highly selective honor recognizing outstanding leadership, creativity, and a commitment to making a meaningful impact. He is also a Lott Institute alumni 2023.

His dedication, drive, and passion continue to stand out, and there is no doubt he will accomplish great things ahead.

Applications for the 2026-2027 Trent Lott Leadership Institute Ambassadors are now open! This is a great way to serve the Lott Institute community and meet prospective students. Applications are due April 17th, and you must attend an interest meeting to be considered.

This past weekend our students at the Trent Lott Leadership Institute had the chance to take part in the Ole Miss Big Event. The Ole Miss Big Event is the largest student-led day of service in the state. Over 1,000 students gathered together for 4 hours of service to over 100 residents home in the Oxford and Lafayette community. We are so proud of our student volunteers and two of our own, along with others, who served on the Executive Team responsible for making the event happen! A huge congratulations to Executive Director, Celie Rayburn, and Director of Projects and Leadership, Audrey Dufrene.
