Oxford College, Residential Education and Services

Oxford College, Residential Education and Services Feel free to post any questions, comments or concerns. All students at Oxford College are required to live on campus.

The Office of Residential Education & Services supports Oxford College's residential college system, which fosters learning and personal development for 900 undergraduate students. The Office of Residential Educational & Services (RES) includes four residential areas: Branham & East Halls, East Village Complex, Jolley Residential Complex, and Haygood Hall. The office coordinates with multiple depa

rtments on campus to integrate student services related to dining, physical resources, advising, crisis management, health services, counseling. The on-campus living experience provides a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in your college experience. Oxford residence halls have both professional and student staff members who live and work in the hall with you in order to ease the transition from high school to collegiate life. Staff members empower residents to respect each other as individuals, seek new experiences, and take an active and creative role in shaping their living environments. Residents are encouraged to develop their fullest potential, as well as hold one another accountable, creating a sense of community, mutual respect, and personal responsibility to themselves and others.

Hello Oxford Students,

Residential Education and Services (RES) understands the importance of students feeling comfortable in their dwellings. Student comfort aids in student academic success and connections with others. Therefore, at the beginning of each semester and depending on space availability, RES allows students to request to change their current assignments. Room Changes and Room/Roommate Swap are the processes by which students are able to change their assignments. All students currently residing in residential housings are eligible to participate in the room change process.

The Scheduled Room Change Process for the spring 2015 is about to begin.

There are three information sessions to discuss the upcoming spring 2015 room change process. The process has changed and will not include students going to the desired hall to obtain the room change paperwork.
Please come to one of the sessions below for information on the process:
• Wednesday, January 14, 2015: 12:00pm - 2:00pm in Dean's Dining Room
• Thursday, January 15, 2015: 12:00pm - 1:30pm in the AKIN room
• Wednesday, January 21, 2015: 6:00pm - 7:00pm in the AKIN room

All questions will be answered at those sessions.
Do not conduct any unauthorized room changes (actually moving your personal belongings from your RES assigned room to another room).
Thank you and see you at the sessions!

As we prepare for Room Change, it is important that students understand the following:

- There were Winter Break assignments for students in extended housing and returning to Oxford for the spring 2015 semester. Those assignments take priority over room changes and will continue to occur at this time. Students with new roommates will receive an email from our office stating such. The assignments are final.

- Do not conduct an unauthorized room change. Unless you have written permission (documentation) from RES, the change has not been approved. Moving will result in judicial and financial charges being assessed to all involved students.

- There will be information sessions to discuss the process. The first session will be Wednesday, January 14, 2015 between 12:00pm and 1:00pm in Dean's Dining Room. Please attend for information.

- You can schedule a meeting with me ([email protected]). I will explain the process and answer questions that you may have.

Thanks

Hello Oxford Students,

I hope this email finds you well. Please read the following email in its entirety.

This email serves as a reminder of the upcoming important dates. You can find all important Residential Education and Services (RES) dates on the RES calendar (http://oxford.emory.edu/life-at-oxford/housing/important-dates/).

Below are the important dates that apply to all students. Students are required to follow these dates.

Unless approved for Late Stay or Early Arrival by RES, students are required to vacate their fall 2014 semester by 10:00am December 18, 2014 (or 24-hours after their last final exam [whichever comes first]) and return to their spring 2015 assignments by 9:00am on Sunday, January 11, 2015 (sophomores only) or 9:00am on Monday, January 12, 2015 (current freshmen).

RES will not allow students to return prior to the stated return dates. Failure to adhere to the return dates can result in the student being assessed a financial charge, the student being sent through the student conduct process, or both. Students approved to return early will receive a separate email from RES.

Have a great rest of the semester!

Respectfully,

Walter

Hello Oxford Students,

I hope this email finds you well and that your semester is ending on a positive note.

This email serves as a reminder that our RES staff will inspect rooms as students leave.

As students begin to leave for the spring 2014 semester and officially check-out of their rooms, our RES staff will enter the rooms to conduct room inspections. This will occur even if the roommate(s) of the recently vacated student are present in the room. Students are not able to prevent the staff from inspecting the rooms. Also, the staff will document any policy violation discovered during the inspection of the room.

Additionally, we attached a check-out list to aid you as you prepare to leave your rooms.

If you have any questions about the check-out or room inspection processes, please contact your RLC.

Respectfully,

Walter

Hello Oxford Students,

I hope that this email finds you well.

As you prepare for the end of the spring semester, I want to inform you of the closing procedures for spring 2014. Because of the details associated with the closing procedures, I am going to provide a brief summary of each important point and a link to a website that will contain the detailed information.

Closing in the Residence Halls
The residence halls will close at 7:00pm on May 7, 2014 for non-graduating students (freshmen and sophomores returning to Oxford College in fall 2014) and 4:00pm on Saturday, May 10, 2014 for approved students (graduating sophomore and students working with commencement). Freshmen must be officially check out of their spring 2014 assignments twenty-four (24) hours after their last exam or by 7:00pm on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 (whichever comes first). Students will have the option to conduct a FACE-TO-FACE or EXPRESS check-out. For more information about the check-out processes, please click HERE or type the following in the internet address bar: http://oxford.emory.edu/life-at-oxford/housing/moving-out/check-out-instructions/

Don’t Dump It, Donate It
Between April 28, 2014 and May 11, 2014, there will be large collection boxes in the main lobby of each residence hall complex. This is to provide students with the opportunity to donate their unwanted clothes, supplies, and non-perishable food. Simply place your donated items in the available green bags and place the bags in the collection box. Thanks for your assistance!

Mail Forwarding
In order to ensure that students receive their important mail and packages, we are strongly encouraging all students to forward their mail for the summer. For more information about mail forwarding, please click HERE or type the following in the internet address bar: https://app.oxford.emory.edu/WebApps/Forms/index.cfm?fuseAction=MailForwarding-Form.

Storage
Students are not allowed to store items at Oxford College. Students now have an alternative for the storage needs, College Storage. College Storage provides storage services for students at both Oxford College and the Atlanta campus at a cost to the student. College Storage will be on campus in May. For more information about storage, please click HERE or type the following in the internet address bar: http://www.collegestoragega.com/.

Returning for the fall 2014 Semester
The scheduled return date for returning Oxford College students is Tuesday, August 26, 2014. Please make the necessary travel plans to arrive on that date. If there is a dire need to arrive prior to that date, please follow the instructions for early arrival request. For more information about early arrival requests, please click HERE or type the following in the internet address bar: http://oxford.emory.edu/life-at-oxford/housing/current-students/early-arrival/
