As students begin their search for summer internships, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the incredible placements from our 2024 cohort.

From community agencies to national organizations, our students gained hands-on experience supporting older adults, strengthening programs, and applying gerontological knowledge in real-world settings. We’re proud of the impact they made and excited to see where the next cohort will go!

Where will your internship take you?

“The Profile of Nursing Homes documents the changes experienced by Ohio's 930 nursing homes,” added Dr. Applebaum. “From a dramatic increase in short-term rehabilitation residents, to recruitment and retention difficulties of the direct care workforce, to a heavy reliance on public funding, the report describes an industry in transition.”

The Ohio Department of Aging, in partnership with the Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University, has published new reports on the state of long-term care services and supports in Ohio.

Learn how these insights will help shape the future of how older adults receive care in Ohio.

We kicked off the semester with good food, great vibes, and meaningful connections at the spring potluck.

From shared meals to thoughtful conversations, it was a fun way to bring our staff and students together and start the semester on a positive note.

Moments like these remind us that connection and community are at the heart of what we do.

Researchers from the Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University in Oxford, OH, compared the prevalence of vaccination programs between assisted living and nursing homes in the Buckeye State.

Great work Kennedy J. Berner, Patrick O. Mese, John R. Bowblis, and Robert Applebaum!

A newly published study finds that assisted living communities consistently had fewer vaccination programs than nursing homes across all vaccine types. That lower coverage, combined with higher perceived risks in the setting, the authors write, “underscores a critical vulnerability in ALs.”
