Miami Fly Fishing

Miami Fly Fishing An organization devoted to promoting fly fishing and educating Miami students on all aspects of the sport such as casting, fly tying, and conservation.

An organization devoted to promoting enthusiasm for fly fishing and educating Miami students on all aspects of the sport such as casting, fly tying, and conservation. This club will explore all aspects of the sport, not just the fishing. The art of tying flies, and knots will be learned through instructional videos, books and potential local professional guides and instructors. Casting will be pra

cticed outside and at local lakes and rivers based on members availability. Based on member's inteterests, a long weekend excursion will be planned, as well as more frequent day trips to closer locations, that will involve camping or paddling with a focus on catching a particular kind of fish using skills we have practiced in previous meetings on campus. The club will have connections to local Trout Unlimited chapters and fly fishing outfitters in nearby cities to gain access to equipment, guided trips, better fishing oppurtunities, and oppurtunities to learn about conservation efforts in southeastern Ohio and the midwest in general.

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of fishing with President Hodge and Professor Finch out on the Indiana Tailwater. Water was high, around a 3.6, but had a great morning nonetheless! Looking forward to more days like this in the fall!

The official application has been put into the hub for Miami Fly Fishing! I have gotten very positive responses from some local fly shops in Indianapolis and Columbus who are willing to sell us discounted products and are willing to teach some classes on casting and fly tying if we make some weekend trips. I also have a contact at Gates Au Sable Lodge in Grayling, Michigan, who is willing to donate some equipment for us! I recommend you check out his website and give it a like on Facebook as well! http://www.gateslodge.com/

Welcome to Miami Fly Fishing! This will be the forum to post pictures, articles, fishing conditions etc. I have posted a few photos of my previous trips and catches but feel free to upload your own images here. I am in the process of applying for funding from Miami and hope to get a formal meeting in the next two weeks to set up a plan and check everyone's availability. If you have any friends who like fly fishing or want to learn more about it share this page with them. We could use all the members we can get to receive more attention from the school. In the mean time rip some lips!
