Just because it's the summer, doesn't mean that our students are all gone! Some Oxford students have the opportunity to stay on campus to participate in the SURE program, where students can research with a professor during the summer and present their research at the end of their 10 week program.

Meet Aarav Parekh, a rising second-year student from Princeton, NJ, majoring in Human Health with a concentration in Health Innovation. Aarav is passionate about the intersection of medicine, innovation, and sports, with the long-term goal of becoming an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon. Growing up as both a soccer player and rower shaped Aarav’s passion for athlete performance and injury prevention, while inspiring his goal of using medicine and technology to advance athlete care and recovery.

On campus, Aarav is involved in the Generative AI Taskforce, MED Club, and South Asian Cultural Alliance, where he seeks to combine his career goals and cultural roots to contribute to the Oxford community. He was also part of the London Launch program, where he studied abroad in London. There, he immersed himself in the city’s global culture while also taking time to travel to many countries throughout Europe.

When he’s not in the classroom, you can usually find Aarav at one of Oxford’s athletic areas. Whether in the gym or quarterbacking his flag football team, he enjoys staying active and competing with his peers. Aarav also co-hosts the weekly “Two Brothers and Their Sports” podcast alongside his brother, where they discuss major sports storylines, debate trending topics, and interview professional athletes. He also enjoys giving back through volunteering at his hospital and animal shelter.

For Aarav, Oxford has been a place to grow academically, personally, and professionally. He is excited to continue exploring the future of sports medicine, healthcare innovation, and athlete performance while building connections with his peers throughout next year!

Meet Romina Galasso, a second-year Oxford graduate student proudly representing Guatemala and Chile! She’s majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Health Innovation and minoring in Data Science and Predictive Health.

In her second semester at Oxford, Romina joined the Business in Medicine Impact Lab, where she connected with health professionals and grew her passion for public health and healthcare accessibility. Back home in Guatemala, she volunteered in local communities teaching English, health education, and even dance—experiences that inspire her dream of expanding youth health education and improving global healthcare access.

As an international student, Romina is dedicated to building community through culture, language, and music. She served as an International Student Orientation Mentor, helping new international students fall in love with Oxford just as she did. As Treasurer of the Latin American Music Association, she brings the spirit of Latin American culture to campus through vibrant student events. She was also a Spanish tutor (known for breaking into Shakira or Karol G at campus gatherings) and always finds ways to celebrate Spanish-speaking culture. At Oxford, she performed with the Oxford Soul Collective, honoring African American musical traditions through soul, funk, and R&B.

Romina was also a campus tour guide with SAA, where she loves sharing the small joys and big opportunities that make Oxford feel like home. She also worked closely with Dean Cepin on the Student Leadership Council, championing student voices and supporting meaningful change on campus.

In her rare free moments, you’ll find Romina ordering a croissant at Oxpresso, walking the nature trail, or laughing with her best friends at the dining hall.
Romina is grateful for the memories she’s made so far and encourages every international student to embrace the opportunities and family you’ll find at Oxford. She can’t wait to see what next semester brings!

Oxford is not your average campus, but a unique first-second year undergraduate experience where students learn skills beyond the classroom. As echoed across our alumni reflections of Oxford, Oxford has a "tight-knit" community where relationships and leadership are developed and encouraged. We are excited to have made such an impact on these students' lives and send them off to the Atlanta Campus, and eventually, the world as not only better thinkers, but better people.
