There is an article in the Stanford Report this morning about our work at Miller Library. Favorite line: "The Stanford Hopkins Marine Station doesn’t have a time machine – but it does have a librarian."

A Stanford librarian brings decades of ocean observations to today’s scientists with advanced tools and a dedication to information accessibility.

Great feature about the station! Even a few shots of the library in there … ☺️

Here's a wonderful article about former Hopkins Head Librarian, Joe Wible. Joe recently set up an endowment so that I, and librarians following me in this role, will continue to be able travel to international conferences. It is a thoughtful and generous gift!

The Popular Science & Children’s Books sections outgrew their shelving at the front of the library, so today we moved them into the reading room. Receiving print journals was significantly reduced across Stanford Libraries in 2020, leaving us with plenty of room to work with in here. What do you think of the displays? 🤔

Here's a few photos of some progress in the spaces that we opened up in the library by removing shelving. We still need to add furniture, white boards, and get power to the desks, but we already have students using these spaces. 🥰

A nice article summarizing a revised edition of, "Ed Ricketts: From Cannery Row to Sitka, Alaska," and mentions our own Don Kohrs!

“We think of (Ed Ricketts) as a character in Monterey, but he also did significant work in the Sea of Cortez and in Sitka. This expands our notion of Ricketts beyond a colorful local figure, to und…

Here's another great spotlight video, featuring some of our team at the Terman Engineering Library!

Engineering librarians Zac Painter, Joseph Maloba Makokha, and Michael Nack present the Mobile Maker Cart containing the latest tools for tinkering and prototyping. The cart, which can be checked out and taken home by students, provided active research support during the pandemic when campus makerspaces were closed.

The Engineering Library is constantly transforming services to address changing user needs. After receiving pilot funding, a new program and service was crea...

Here is an 8-minute video about a couple of the digital collections projects that Amanda has been leading. These projects are made possible by collaborations with excellent staff here at Miller Library, in the Digital Production Group on main campus (scanning), and partners in the Digital Library Systems and Services (DLSS) unit. Teamwork makes the dreams work in Stanford Libraries!

Historical data is very important, especially in the context of climate change. Miller Library has several collections that contain older observational data....
