We want to extend a heartfelt Congratulations to our graduating Biotechnology student, Marcela Tarazona, who has been selected as one of six PBSC students to be honored as a 2026 World Impact Scholar, from a highly competitive pool of applicants. She will receive a $2,500 scholarship.

Supported by a generous investment from Coca-Cola North America, the World Impact Scholars program reflects Phi Theta Kappa’s commitment to investing in student success and especially in those whose education and career pathways strengthen their communities and meet real workforce needs. These scholars represent the talent, determination, and local impact that community colleges cultivate every day, and their selection is a powerful reflection of your institution’s leadership and commitment to opportunity.

Congratulations on this amazing opportunity!

Our Biotechnology 1 Genomics students had an incredible opportunity to step beyond the classroom and into real-world science during their recent visit to Dr. Susana Valente’s research lab at The Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation & Technology. 🧬

Throughout the visit, students learned more about the research that their Professor, Dr. Mark Clementz worked on prior to coming to PBSC and explored cutting-edge research focused on HIV biology, gene expression, and innovative therapeutic strategies. They engaged with scientists, observed advanced laboratory techniques, and gained firsthand insight into how genomics is shaping the future of medicine.

Experiences like this bring course concepts to life—connecting what we learn in class to meaningful, impactful research happening right here in our community. We are so grateful to the researchers and staff for inspiring the next generation of scientists!

Our Intro to Biotech students had an incredible opportunity to step into the world of cutting-edge science today during our class trip to the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience! 🧠✨
From exploring advanced imaging technologies to learning how researchers study brain function at the cellular level, students experienced firsthand what it means to be at the forefront of neuroscience discovery. The visit sparked curiosity, inspired questions, and connected classroom learning to real-world innovation.

A huge thank you to the scientists and staff who welcomed us and shared their passion for research and discovery. A special thank you to PBSC Biotech Program Alum, Dr. Mike Guest, for hosting yet another wonderful tour. Experiences like this empower our students to envision themselves as the next generation of scientists, healthcare professionals, and innovators.
