"Having more results will change the way we’re able to evaluate what is true—or seems to be true—and what is not." IPL researchers are leading a project to promote widespread sharing of null results. Here's why we need it: https://tinyurl.com/dh7zk6xp"

IPL is building a platform and culture to encourage researchers to share their null results.

As the Biden admin looks to resettle more refugees in the US, critics say they pose a threat to public safety. But a new IPL study finds no evidence of this: Even when the Trump administration completely halted resettlement by executive order, there was no effect on crime.

Asking Americans to recall their family’s migration history leads them to express greater support for more open immigration policies. This study, co-authored by IPL affiliates ClaireAdida
and Scott Williamson, highlights the ways empathy can shape attitudes toward immigrants:

Research suggests that reminding Americans – Democrats and Republicans – of their family history creates empathy for immigrants and more favorable views toward immigration.

For Venezuelan activists living abroad, exile changes the way they express dissent online—they take harder anti-government lines and increase support for foreign-led solutions to the country’s crisis. Check out the latest IPL working paper, which analyzed over 5 million tweets sent by 339 Venezuelan activists over seven years. It's the first large-scale, quantitative study of the ways exile shapes online dissent.

An analysis of over 5 million tweets suggests that the internalization of networks is one mechanism by which exile shapes how activists communicate.

Unauthorized immigrants may avoid seeking health care when they're fearful of deportation, like when ICE is active nearby. But San Francisco is an exception to this trend, IPL and UCSF research found. The city's inclusive health policies could be the reason:

In San Francisco, threatening enforcement events like nearby ICE raids did not necessarily disrupt health care utilization among immigrant patients.

More countries are exploring IPL’s GeoMatch, a tool that connects immigrants and refugees to places where they are most likely to succeed. Now, a new grant from Stanford Impact Labs will help us work toward pilot-testing GeoMatch in Canada and the Netherlands.

More than 270 million people have left their home countries for better lives abroad. The Immigration Policy Lab is working with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) in the Netherlands to design, test, and scale an algori...

During the House Judiciary Committee's discussion on immigration policy, some experts weighed in on the economic benefits of immigration. IPL researchers are working to build evidence of how countries can support migration as an engine of economic growth.

Introducing an IPL initiative that aims to make migration a powerful force for growth in the developing world.

As the Biden administration moves to preserve and fortify DACA, we revisit our findings on how DACA benefits the mental health of children in immigrant families.

When unauthorized immigrants are offered protection from deportation, mental illnesses in their children drop by more than fifty percent.

While equal opportunity hiring is the expectation, the reality is often different. IPL ETH Zürich researchers report in Nature that immigrant job seekers were 6.5% less likely to be contacted than Swiss applicants with identical skills.

When it comes to hiring decisions, discrimination against immigrants depends on the time of day applicants are reviewed, an IPL study found.
