Today they helped Emerald and Forgotten Coast Adventures to educate the third graders at Patronis Elementary School about sea turtles, plastic pollution, local birds, and coastal dune lakes. Effective literacy leadership shapes student achievement, yet its influence on literacy outcomes remains understudied in reading research. At , Dr. Nicole Patton Terry will explore how research-practice partnerships, leadership, and literacy are all connected.

As the Director of The Florida Center for Reading Research, Dr. Patton Terry's work focuses on bridging research and practice to improve literacy outcomes, particularly for vulnerable student populations, including Black children, students with disabilities, and those from low-income backgrounds. She has led research-practice partnerships that bring together district and school leaders, researchers, and practitioners.
