Associate Professor Joshua Vermillion was commissioned by Sony Music to create large-format animated video backdrops for a recent concert in Hong Kong, China. Vermillion’s creative work transformed the stage environment across four songs—including the finale—for Chinese music icon Sandy Lam’s “Resonance: Reconstructed” concert at the sold-out Kai Tak Stadium.

Congratulations to Melika Ansarinejad! She was awarded a (GSRA) Graduate Student Research Award to support her research in 2026-2027. The research is associated with her interest in autonomous vehicles. Specifically, it is a mixed-methods study of public trust in autonomous vehicles based on the recent rollout of Zoox robo-taxis here on the Las Vegas Resort Corridor. Melika will be conducting structured interviews with Zoox passengers and other riders and conducting analysis of rider experiences shared publicly (e.g., YouTube videos) to identify barriers to public trust in autonomous vehicles, with the hopes of improving infrastructure, acceptance, and safety of these vehicles.

Congratulations to David Taloma, winner of the 2026 LandDesign Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Scholarship.

David is a third-year landscape architecture student at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and has been passionate about landscape architecture since the eighth grade. He is inspired by the ways landscape architecture positively shapes the natural and built environments, and is fascinated by the field's innovation and ability to create meaningful, sustainable, and functional spaces. Alongside his studies, he works in the UNLV School of Architecture Digital Fabrication Lab where he supports students and faculty with digital workflows and fabrication processes. David plans to pursue graduate studies in landscape architecture and is especially interested in therapeutic landscape design, cohabitation, sustainable urban design, and ecological restoration.

Congratulations to UNLV School of Architecture 6th-year students Kayla Larose and Alan Garcia on their acceptance into the 2026 Venice Studio.

Venice Studio brings together young designers, students, and architects from around the world to engage in research, design, mentorship, field study, and collaboration with leading international architects and design practices. The 2026 programs include Venice and Tokyo studio opportunities with firms such as MVRDV, Kengo Kuma and Associates, BIG, OMA, Zaha Hadid Architects, Snøhetta, and others.

We are proud of Kayla and Alan for earning this extraordinary international opportunity and for representing the UNLV School of Architecture, the College of Fine Arts, and UNLV on a global stage. Their achievement reflects the talent, ambition, and professional promise of our students.
