Selecting the right mineral can be challenging — Dr. Katie VanValin and Dr. Jeff Lehmkuhler break it down.
Among the many supplementation options available, mineral choice is often one of the most confusing decisions for beef producers. Understanding what’s on a mineral tag — and how to interpret that information — is key to comparing products and selecting a mineral program that fits your herd’s needs.
This UK Beef Extension publication walks through:

What information is required on mineral tags
How AAFCO regulations guide labeling
How to compare mineral products effectively

FSA is encouraging all livestock producers to complete acreage reporting for their hay and pasture ground.

Drought relief programs have not triggered at this time; however, to ensure producers are prepared in the event one does, they must have a crop report on file for all acreage they graze or harvest for hay. The reporting deadline for hay and pasture for 2026 is July 15, 2026, but they strongly encourage producers to report now to avoid the rush as we get closer to the deadline.

If a producer has already filed their 2026 crop report, please review it for accuracy to prevent any issues later in the year. Scheduling appointments is recommended to make the best use of staff time and resources.

Choosing the right bull can make—or break—a herd’s future. That’s why 27 producers from Bourbon, Harrison, Scott, Montgomery, and Fayette counties joined us for this hands-on, two-part program focused on smarter bull buying decisions.
With guidance from University of Kentucky specialists, participants learned how to evaluate EPDs, assess bull health and performance, and then put those skills to the test in a live mock auction setting.
The impact speaks for itself:
⭐ 4.92/5 overall program rating
📈 100% said the program will help with future bull purchases

Programs like this are helping producers make more confident, data-driven decisions—leading to stronger herds and more profitable operations across Central Kentucky.

A huge thank you to Paris Stockyard and Marshal Tingle for their support to help make this program a success.
