In 1994 the cities of Flat River, Elvins, Esther, and Rivermines consolidated to become one community known as Park Hills. The population has grown from 7,866 at the merger to over 14,000 people today. Park Hills is a historic city featuring a country setting with all the comforts of big city living. The Mineral Area College athletic teams compete in Region XVI of the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association). The NJCAA is the governing body of Junior College Athletics (similar to the NCAA) and has over 500 members nation-wide. Four sports (volleyball, men's and women's basketball, and baseball) compete at the Division I level, while two sports (men's golf and softball) compete at the Division II level. Region Affiliation
The Cardinals athletic programs compete in Region XVI of the NJCAA. Region XVI is composed of the Junior Colleges in Missouri and has various divisions for each sport. The Region is similar to a conference in the NCAA, due to the fact that the Region Tournament Champion advances in National Tournament play.
